Lesson No 2 of Top 10 Grammar Lessons


Use of has, have, had, is, are, was, were, shall, & will

Most of the students use, has, have, had, is, are, was, were, will, shall in a very confusing manner. They are confused with them and don't use them with certainty.

Before studying the above said, first my learn about Personal Pronouns.

First Person singular: (I)

First Person plural: (we)

Second person singular and plural: (You)

Third-person singular: (he, she, it) and 

Third-person plural: (they)

1. 'has' is used with a singular noun in the Present Tense.

For example:

  • She has a doll.
  • He has got blue eyes.
  • She has many friends here 

2. 'have' is used with (a) plural nouns, 

For example:

  • They have many chicks.
  • Children have many candies.

(b) with First-person singular (I) and First plural (we)

For example: 

  • We have good relationships.
  • I have many stamps. 

(c) with Second person singular and plural:

For example:

  • You have a surety.
  • You have not any information.
  • I have got black hair 

3. 'had' with all singular and plural nouns or pronouns in the Past Tense 

  • He had a nice jacket last night.
  • We had a good company last evening.
  • They had got many chances yesterday.
  • She had no true friends last year 
  • He had got a good news yesterday.
4. Only 'have' is used after 'do, does, & did'
 For example:
  • She didn't have any information.
  • He doesn't have any books.
  • We didn't have much time.
  • I don't have your pen.
5. Use of 'is' with a singular noun, for example:
  • He is a student of my colleague. (Present Tense)
  • He is playing cricket.
  • She is watching T.V.
6. Use of 'are' with a plural noun, 
For example:
  • We are watching T.V now. (Present Tense)
  • They are playing Chess.
  • We are watching a match.
7. Use of 'was' with a singular noun, for example:
  • He was a good student of my colleague. (Past Tense)
  • He was playing cricket.
  • She was watching T.V. last night.
8. Use of 'were' with a plural noun, 
For example:
  • We were watching T.V then. (Past Tense)
  • They were playing Chess.
  • We were watching a match.

9. Use of 'will' with 'you, he, she, it, & they' 
For example:
  • He will come tomorrow. (Future Tense)
  • You will play cricket.
  • She will be watching T.V. tomorrow. 
10. Use of 'shall' with 'I & we'  
For example:

  • We shall be watching T.V tomorrow. (Future Tense)
  • I shall play cricket next Sunday. 
  • We shall be watching a match.
