What is Singular and Plural Verb?
There are some Singular Nouns, for instance, 'a book', 'a boy', 'a stick', and 'a car' etc. are singular common nouns, some are Plural Nouns, for instance, 'books', 'boys', 'sticks', and 'cars' etc. are Plural Nouns.
Rule No. 1
A Singular Verb is used with a Singular Noun &
Rule No. 2
A Plural verb is used with a Plural Noun, for example:
1. My car runs fast. (here car is a singular noun and runs is a singular verb.
2. My dogs bark at strangers. (here dogs is a plural verb and bark is a plural verb)
3. The dog runs after the cats. (here dog is a singular verb and run is a plural verb)
4. Dogs bark at night.
5. The cat is running after the mouse.
Note: This rule is also called Subject-verb Agreement.
Exception:
Singular & Plural Second Person Pronoun
You
Either You is a singular or plural, it is used with Plural verb, for example,
1. You run fast.
2. You love your mother.
3. You have good knowledge of computers.
4. You were not present in the meeting.
5. You will go to college tomorrow.
Singular Third Person Pronouns
He, she, & it
6. He runs fast.
7. She loves her mother.
8. She has good knowledge of computers.
9. He was not present in the meeting.
10. She will go to college tomorrow.
Singular first Person Pronoun
I
11. I run fast.
12. I love my mother.
13. I have good knowledge of Geography.
14. I was not present at the meeting.
15. I shall go to college tomorrow.
Plural Third Person Pronouns
They
16. They run fast.
17. They love their mother.
18. They have good knowledge of Physics.
19. They were not present at the meeting.
20. They will go to college tomorrow.
Singular first Person Pronoun
We
21. We play cricket daily.
22. We love our country.
23. We have good knowledge of Politics.
24. We were not present at the conference.
25. We shall not go to college tomorrow.
